(Read completely before attempting to set up the Tepee)

The Paha Que' Tepee depends upon poles for its shape and rigidity similar to a tent. But, unlike a tent, which has it's poles on the outside, the Tepee has it's poles on the inside. The Tepee has been designed to be set up and taken down quickly. You will be able to do this yourself once you learn how it is done.

There are 4 long poles and 4 short poles used to erect the Tepee. The long poles go inside of the Tepee, as mentioned above, and the short poles are attached to the Tepee on the outside. Each long pole extends from the grommet at the bottom edge of the Tepee, up through a small webbing loop mid-way up the inside of the Tepee, to a grommet at the top. All the grommets and webbing loops are color-coded for easy identification.

The Tepee is constructed with 67" high walls with a 27" mesh netting top section. There are 4 straps extending along the outside of the Tepee. These straps start at each corner at the seam between the wall and the netting and extend to the top. The front 2 straps are of fixed length while the 2 rear straps are adjustable in length and should be extended to their full length before attempting to set up the Tepee. (See illustration below)

  1. Unpack the Tepee and accessories and extend all pole segments to full length. Be sure sections are fully engaged.
  2. Layout all components where they can be easily reached.
  3. Unroll the Tepee and lay it flat with the 'D' shaped door facing up.
  4. Locate the 4 grommets along the inside bottom edge of the Tepee and the 4 grommets at the apex of the Tepee.
  5. Locate the 4 color-coded webbing loops midway up along the inside seams of the Tepee.
  6. Insert one of the long aluminum poles through the bottom of the Tepee, through the red webbing loop and insert the tap at the end of the pole into the red grommet at the top of the Tepee.
  7. Insert the bottom tab of the same pole in the red grommet at the bottom of the Tepee.
  8. Continue by inserting the other 3 poles into the remaining color-coded grommets and loops.
  9. After all 4 poles are inserted into the Tepee, set the Tepee up and spread out the 4 corner poles so the Tepee freestands upright.
  10. Locate the 4 webbing straps that extend down on the outside from the Tepee apex to the top of the Tepee walls.
  11. Insert one of the 4 short aluminum poles into the bottom grommets of the 2 straps on either side of the Tepee door. (The pole should extend across the top of the door).
  12. Insert another short pole into the bottom grommets of the 2 straps on either side of the back wall of the Tepee.
  13. Insert the remaining 2 short poles into the top grommets of the straps on either side of the Tepee.
  14. After all 4 short poles are inserted into the grommets, tighten each of the rear straps by pulling them through their buckles until they reach the stops.
IMPORTANT: When taking down the Tepee, all steps should be followed in reverse. DO NOT remove the short poles until the straps are lengthened to their full length.
  15. Place the Tepee where you can use it and stake it down.
  16. If windy or wind is expected, add guy lines at each corner by attaching the guys to the large D-rings provided. (see drawing above)
  17. To install the rainfly, throw the fly over the top of the Tepee with the coated side of the fabric facing down towards the Tepee. There are 4 straps at the corners of the fly, 2 are adjustable and 2 are fixed in length. Pull all 4 of the straps over the tips of the short Tepee poles. Tighten the adjustable straps to tighten the whole fly. Orient the clear panels of the fly towards the sun to heat shower-bag if one is inside of Tepee.
  18. To use the solar heated shower bag, first attach the mesh shower bag hammock to the 4 poles inside the top of the Tepee using the snaphooks and D-rings at the corners. The shower can be heated outside of the Tepee on a rock or table and installed in the hammock prior to use or it can be heated in the hammock directly.
  19. The mesh and vinyl accessory bags can be installed on any side of the Tepee attaching them to the Tepee poles.
The removable floor can be installed if desired by attaching it to the 4 corner poles at the bottom. It is recommended that the floor be removed and hung out to dry once a day while the Tepee is not in use.
